Talis Aspire Advanced MIS

What is Advanced MIS?

Advanced MIS provides access to rich, deep and timely data insights into your reading lists and resources, and how they are used.

Read this article on Why Universities are choosing Talis Aspire Advanced MIS for deeper analytics reporting

Advanced MIS contains:

  • Application data – these are the facts, for example, this book has this ISBN and is Essential Reading on this list for this module
  • Events data – this captures the date, time and nature of user interactions with the system (e.g. student A did X on X date)

Data about reading lists, digitisation requests, reviews, and teaching resources is collected into a data warehouse. How those things are used and who is using them, down to each click, allows you to see detailed analytics. Combining the data into a data warehouse means that you can easily combine Talis Aspire data with data from other systems.

How Universities Are Using Advanced MIS to Make Use of Their Talis Aspire Data

  • Philip Adams, Senior Assistant Librarian: Content Delivery, Department of Library and Learning Services, De Montfort University
  • Madalene George, Student Engagement Coordinator & Senior Library Services Advisor
  • Kristy Millard, Reading Resources Coordinator, University of Worcester
  • Jessica Wainwright, Library Resources Manager, University College Birmingham

“Measuring return on investment on resources by monitoring their use and building reports for various subject areas or departments to give them a view of list usage and coverage was very important to us. We would then want to measure these against institutional metrics”.
Jessica Wainwright, Online Systems Librarian, University College Birmingham

How resource list data is being used by the Talis Aspire community

At Talis Insight Webinars 2021 in November, we heard from 4 universities about how they are using their Talis Aspire resource list data. Discover how they are making processes more efficient, and driving impactful learning analytics programs.

University

  • Reading Lists and learning resources provide valuable insight into student engagement with the content academics have identified as being key to achieving the learning objectives for the course. This gives:
    • A unique insight for learning and learner analytic programmes
    • Support for intervention strategies for health and wellbeing
    • Enhanced academic and student dashboards to make informed decision
    • Combine Talis data with wider institutional data sets (e.g. learning system, student portal, registry, lecture capture) as part of your ‘Big Data’ strategy to uncover behaviour patterns that lead to better student and academic outcomes.

Academics

  • Support your academics by providing them with data that can improve their understanding of their student’s engagement with reading lists and resources.
  • Empower academics to make data-driven decisions about course design and delivery
