A guide to creating library content for the Talis Aspire List View refresh

As we roll-out our List view refresh programme, you may want refresh or create library content on the student list view to share with students. We’ve created some screenshots of different features that you can save and use on your web pages. Click on the links below to see content on each feature.

Using your list: Table of contents

The table of contents makes it easier for students to navigate their list. The drop-down menu allows students to jump to a particular section or sub-section of any list.

Using your list: Filtering your list

The ‘View: All’ drop-down menu allows students to filter their list using a number of different filters.

Physical Resource/Online resource: Allows students to select just physical items on the list, or just items available online.

Reading intentions: Student can filter by the reading intentions they have set. They can assign a status to each item on a reading list, the statuses are as follows ‘undecided’, ‘Will read’, ‘Reading now’, ‘Have read’, Won’t read’. Once assigned, this is shown by a coloured icon next to each item. They can then filter the list and show just items from a particular category.

Importances: When academics set importances to items on the list, such as ‘Recommended for student purchase’, ‘Essential’, ‘Recommended’ or ‘Optional’ it indicated to the student what is expected from them. Students can filter the list using these categories to see items grouped by importance more easily.

Using your list: Citations

Students are able to set their reading list to use a particular style of referencing, in order to make citing items from the list more easily. The referencing styles available to students are set during your Talis Aspire implementation.

When a style is selected, the titles of the items in the list change to reflect the referencing style. The image below shows the same items in Harvard referencing style.

This can be particularly useful for students when referencing items, as they are able to export the entire list in a variety of formats, or import directly into RefWorks.

How to interact with your list: Assigning reading intentions

Reading intentions can be used by the student to assign a status to each item within their lists, by clicking the 3 dots icon next to each item. This is designed to help them organise their list.

They can mark ‘undecided’, ‘will read’, ‘reading now’, ‘have read’ and won’t read’ that will appear as a coloured icon once selected.

There is also an option to filter the entire list by their reading intentions at the top of the list page.

How to interact with your list: Adding a note

Students are able to add their own notes to any item on a reading list. Annotations can be useful when organising their reading list.

There is an option to filter the entire list by annotated items, or non-annotated items at the top of the list page.
