Talis Awards 2018: Excellence in implementation and management

The Talis Award for Excellence in implementation and management is for a university that shows dedication to implementing Talis Aspire, who have got stuck into the Talis Aspire community, and has shown impressive organisation and effort put in to achieve their migration goals.

This year, the winner was Aston University. Here’s why:

Aston University had a very short implementation timeline to migrate from their previous reading list solution. From the start, the project team focussed on achieving their goal of going live with Talis Aspire Reading Lists for the 2017/18 academic year. Their dedication to ensuring that students had access to their reading lists for the start of the academic year 2017/18 was impressive. Despite their project falling over the summer months and with changes in their other systems, they faced these challenges head on. Since becoming a part of the Talis Aspire community, Aston University have already been very supportive to other universities in the wider community.

Heather Whitehouse, Director of Information Resources and Research Services at Aston University said “When Aston made the decision to move to Talis Aspire in June last year the institution already had reading lists embedded in all of our VLE modules and an academic staff who were used to maintaining and delivering their lists via a reading list system. Circumstances pushed us into the decision far later in the year than we would have wished, and we needed to have Talis Aspire fully functioning for staff to work on their lists for the autumn term. Both the pressure and the stakes were high but we’re used to working under pressure and with the help and support from staff at Talis we managed it.”
