Robert Gordon University selects Talis Aspire Digitised Content application to enhance student experience.

Robert Gordon University, based in Aberdeen, Scotland is described as a dynamic, modern place to study with an international reputation for providing high quality education from undergraduate through to PhD level. With 16,000 students it was voted Scotland’s University of the Year in 2011.

According to Michelle Anderson, Director of Library Services, at Robert Gordon University, “Talis Aspire Digitised Content perfectly aligned to our strategic drivers for all key stakeholders – students, academics and the library itself. It will significantly enhance the student experience, by improving both the quantity and quality of online reading available through Talis Aspire Reading Lists, giving immediate 24/7 access to students both on and off campus.”

“For academics, not only will Talis Aspire Digitised Content allow us to build on relationships with academic colleagues established as part of our reading list activity, it will add significant value by simplifying workflows for academics, saving time, effort and reducing copyright complexities.”

“And for ourselves in the University library, we anticipate Talis Aspire Digitised Content will assist in capturing data to inform digitisation and wider resource list planning, allowing us to develop our digitisation capacity within existing staff resource limits to deliver a service that is widely valued across the institution.”

More about Talis
Talis is a UK based business whose mission is to apply software and data to help transform education. The Talis Aspire Reading List module enables academics and librarians to find, bookmark, manage, publish and track usage of recommended learning resources for students. The Talis Aspire Digitised Content module enables digitised and copyright cleared content, including items referenced on reading lists, to be uploaded and managed, whilst ensuring authenticated access to students.

The data in the Talis Platform consists of over 200,000 reading lists containing over 3.3 million references to learning resources including textbooks, ebooks, journals, documents, videos and web pages. These are teaching resources recommended by academics from over 60 universities, and used by over 1 million students at campuses around the world. The data and the connections between users, subjects, courses, and resources represent an Education Graph. This graph is used to power a series of collective intelligence based features that use the knowledge of the whole system to help improve teaching and learning.
