press release

The Talis Aspire community in Canada continues to grow, as Langara College joins the University of Alberta, Capilano University, MacEwan University, and Okanagan College in benefitting from the platform-neutral Resource List Management Solution. Talis Aspire will facilitate library oversight of copyright workflows, reducing risk across the university, while amplifying library visibility and use of licensed resources at the point of student learning.

Dr. Debbie Schachter,  Director of Library Services & Learning Commons and member of the OCLC Board of Governors, welcomed the addition of Talis Aspire Resource List Management Solution for a second time, first as University Librarian at Capilano University and again when Langara College’s evaluation team selected Talis Aspire, shortly after Dr. Schachter joined the institution in 2021.

Dr. Schachter noted, “Langara Library is looking forward to implementing Talis Aspire to integrate with our Brightspace LMS, which will increase the awareness and use of our many licensed resources. We look forward to improving the student experience in accessing and using their course materials. In addition, we are also anticipating the benefit of improved copyright workflows to support us in compliance and in the development of improved services for faculty.”

Caroline Korbel, Copyright Librarian at Langara College, said: “Langara College is excited to be implementing Talis Aspire. As a Copyright Librarian, I’m eager to gain insight into copyright compliance and to mitigate risk on our Brightspace LMS. We’re excited to be able to provide improved and more nuanced support and services to our Faculties.”

A platform-neutral solution, Talis Aspire integrates into existing library and institutional ecosystems, bridging the Learning Management System (LMS) and Library Services Platform (LSP) while enhancing library access and visibility. At Langara College, Talis Aspire Resource List Management Solution will integrate with their LSP, Innovative Sierra, and their LMS, BrightSpace by D2L.

The Langara College team is already working closely with the Talis Services Team to be ready to launch for fall semester 2022.

Talis CEO Alison Spencer said, “We’re delighted that Langara College has adopted the Talis Aspire solution under Dr. Schachter’s leadership. We are flattered by the vote of confidence from Dr. Schachter and her team in joining the Talis Aspire community in Canada. Our Services Team will work closely with them throughout the implementation process, managing their specific institutional and regional needs, particularly supporting their goal to streamline the copyright process.”
