How is Perlego helping students?

As universities prepare for a more blended learning experience in the next academic year, there’s been a need to ensure a straightforward and cost-effective way to access content digitally.

To match that need, Talis recently announced a partnership with Perlego, an online library that gives students unlimited access to titles from over 2,800 publishers including Pearson, Wiley, Cambridge University Press, Harvard University Press, SAGE Publishing, and Bloomsbury.

Designed to help students learn and study remotely, Perlego is accessible via an online e-reader on a student’s mobile, tablet, or laptop, with the option to download books for offline reading.

With the new integration between Perlego and Talis Aspire, students can automatically see which of their course ebooks or etextbooks are available in the Perlego library through their reading list.

Perlego has seen a huge rise in subscribers during the pandemic lockdowns, with 158% increase in subscribers – reflective of the trend towards students looking for reading materials online.

In a recent survey carried out by Perlego, 95.8% of respondents said that Perlego offers ‘ok or good value for money’. 58% of students went on to say they typically need more than ten books a year for their courses, with 43% saying they’ll use over 15 books.

Morgan, a Theatre and Performance student at the University of Leeds said: “During the pandemic when access to the library was impossible, Perlego provided digital copies of texts that the university library only had physical copies of. This was invaluable for me during my dissertation.”

Perlego is invaluable to Nick, studying Cybersecurity Management at Bournemouth University: “I am dyslexic so reading physical books is impossible for me. Reading online using devices like the kindle are a lifesaver.

“My studies haven’t begun yet, but Perlego allowed me to get a taste of the subject matter before the course starts and it is very useful to get a general idea of what and how I am going to study.” says Radu, Naval Architecture, University of Strathclyde

Students can purchase a subscription to Perlego for £12/month or £96 for the year. This gives them unlimited access to over 400,000 books on Perlego.
