Management Information Dashboard: Understanding how Talis Aspire can impact on strategic decision making

David Renfree
Management Information Product Update

Data generated while creating and editing resource lists can give universities wider insights about institutional practices and how Talis Aspire is shaped by its users. The new Management Information (MI) Dashboard we have created captures this information in a series of charts and reports to help institutions make strategic decisions about current practice and future planning.

The MI Dashboard is driven by data taken from all levels of Talis Aspire – lists, list content, user behaviour and the underlying hierarchy. This information is presented in a series of pre-configured interactive charts and reports, designed to allow users to easily understand the context of what they are seeing. The underlying data can also be exported for further interrogation.

Some examples of things you could look to easily explore using MI Dashboard include academic engagement, both at an individual and departmental level, helping to identify good practice and where increased engagement may be necessary. Other potential uses include finding evidence for the future allocation of budgets and other resources. But we are sure that the Talis Aspire community will identify other creative uses!

Here is a brief summary of the 6 charts available at launch:

  • List Coverage – identify which Schools, Faculties or Departments within your institution are engaging well with Talis Aspire, and where increased engagement activity may be necessary.
  • Edit Activity – monitor all list building and editing events on your tenancy, both at an institutional and individual level. Who are the Academic champions that return to edit on a frequent basis?
  • List Length – compare list sizes across the entire institution, ensuring compliance with local policies or identifying differences between different Schools. Find out at a glance if you have a number of lists with no items, or if the vast majority contain over 100.
  • Top 100 Publishers – identify the most used publishers across the institution for books and chapters, information which can assist decisions about purchasing or subscriptions to publisher packages.
  • Importance by hierarchy – understand how different departments make use of importances, with potential use for acquisitions or for recommending good practice on list building.
  • Resource type by hierarchy – see how different departments use different resources, with implications for purchasing or planning your physical space.

MI Dashboard is available to all institutions on the Talis Aspire PLUS and UNLIMITED subscription tiers. Not on PLUS or UNLIMITED but want to know more? Speak to your Account Manager who can arrange a demonstration.
