Creating support materials for the New List View in Talis Aspire

Integration
How are you supporting students and academics when moving to New List View in Talis Aspire?

Currently 70% of the Talis Aspire community are fully transitioned to the New List View. Students are able to view their resource lists with the latest interface making them more interactive, engaging and accessible from all mobile devices.

This is what some of our existing universities have said about the New List View:

Adele Beeken, E-Resources Librarian at the University of Lincoln said about the New List View: “It’s a lot cleaner and clearer to students, and reducing the number of clicks through to resources is a vast improvement!

David Steedman, Reading List and Digitisation Coordinator at the University of Roehampton said: “The New List View looks brilliant through the LTI integration!

We are always encouraged and pleased to see the training material and guidance that you provide to your students and academics, and how this is valued by all. With the move to the New List View, you may be thinking about how you will review and reshape the training materials you provide.

Below are a selection of resources that some of our universities have created and are happy to share. You might even use these as ideas for refreshing or creating your own support materials. Do you have materials you’d like to share? Please comment on this blog post or contact Emma Dodd: ed@talis.com.

Online resources and guidance

The University of East Anglia created a guide that gives an overview of the benefits of the New List View and a quick reference guide – Reading Lists New Interface Guide.

The University of Sussex highlighted the benefits of embedding reading lists into Canvas (their LMS/VLE). You can read details of this in their blog post.

The University of Highlands and Islands (UHI) created extensive guides for students on using Module Reading Lists alongside an FAQ to support the transition from their previous reading list system. See their Lib Guide.

Online support videos

The University of Essex created a student video explaining the New List View interface. You can view the video here.

Edge Hill University produced a video with academic, Michelle Man, talking about the ease of using Online Reading Lists. You can view the video in their blog post.

James Cook University produced an engaging student video to help them find reading lists and use the interactive features of lists in their study.  See James Cook University’s student video.

Talis Support Materials

Talis provide a support article to outline the key features which you can use as a base to create your own support materials.

What can I do?

  • If you have not yet moved fully to the New List View and would like to know more, please raise a support ticket.
  • If you have already moved or are thinking of making the transition, do remember to check all of your documentation and guidance so this is showing the updated interface.
  • If you have created or re-written your own guidance and would like to share this with others, please comment on the post or email Emma Dodd (ed@talis.com).
  • You can also refer to our recent webinar held by our marketing team to guide you on the best tips for planning and creating your own videos.

We are holding an upcoming webinar on the 26th February for our Asia-Pacific region on creating engaging support materials. You can register for the webinar here.
