How we deliver a robust, reliable and proven service throughout our busiest month of the year

As we reach the end of our busiest period, we look at how Talis Aspire has performed. October marked the start of the academic year for our European universities and the start of the exam period for our Asia-Pacific universities. It’s important to us that we provide a consistent level of service all year round, no matter the time or location. The numbers in the post below reflect our robust, reliable and proven service.
Ramping up
In the month of October 2018, we saw over 11 million page views on all reading lists from our Talis Aspire users across the globe. There were 707k digitisations with 120k of those being created from June 2018 until the end of October 2018, in preparation for this busy time. There were 428,668 reading lists published in readiness for this period, including existing published lists and new draft lists.

Reliability
With so many students, academics and librarians relying on Talis Aspire to access resources, teaching material and to ensure smooth efficient workflows, being reliable and available is our top priority. In the month of October 2018, our availability was 99.999%, including any scheduled maintenance (find out why the ‘five nines’ are worth shouting about here) with our average availability from the period January 2018 – October 2018 at 99.99%, again, including scheduled maintenance. Talis has focused on building this level of quality into our cloud provision for years, and we are proud to be able to achieve this during our busiest time. This is no mean feat, just ask your other cloud vendors!
At Talis, we are constantly making changes to update and improve the system, and to keep up with growing demand. Our goal is that you don’t notice these increments and that the service is always available, especially during busy periods.
Scaling to meet your needs
We are proud to be constantly growing, last year we hit a milestone of 100 universities, and today we are reaching 105 universities across the globe. As you will see from the numbers below, we have seen a huge increase in the use of Talis Aspire over the past 12 months. In order to achieve a consistent service, no matter how many users are on the system, we must be robust and prepared to scale the system to meet our users’ needs.
We currently have a total of 937,519 reading lists in Talis Aspire. 215,814 were created since November 2017. We have a total of 707,161 digitisations (irrespective of status). 201,390 of these were created since November 2017.
Supporting you
The Talis team are dedicated to ensuring you are getting the most out of Talis Aspire, whether that is helping you find solutions to day to day queries, or putting together a Business Process Review to look at your longer-term efficiencies. In 2018 we added a new member to the Talis Services Team (find out more about David here), ensuring we continue to strive to provide the best possible support.
In the month of October, we had 303 support tickets raised by our Talis Aspire users. We resolved 307 support tickets in that period. In October we saw a 100% satisfaction from our response to support cases (out of the 17% that rated their case).
