Reflecting on years with Talis Aspire – sessions from our Talis Aspire User Group (TAUG) community at Talis Insight Europe 2018

At Talis Insight Europe 2018, we invited submissions from our TAUG community, to talk about their achievements with Talis Aspire. In this post, you’ll find sessions from some of our customers who are no longer ‘new’ to Talis Aspire as they share how they reinvigorated reading lists at their institution.

“Fingers burnt, lessons learnt: Talis at Reading two years on” was the session presented by Kerry Webb – Associate Director (Academic Liaison & Support) at the University of Reading. After implementing Talis Aspire in 2015, they experienced challenges around getting academic buy-in and embedding the system into day-to-day practice at the university. Two years on, Kerry delivered a session on how they worked to face these challenges by listening to academic staff.

Nicola Ward and Rachel Fell, Senior Assistant Librarians from Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU) kicked off their session by looking back to Talis Insight Europe 2017, to a session from Alison Taylor from the University of Worcester. After the event last year, this session went viral in the TAUG community and was a source of inspiration for many (see it here). In MMU’s talk they discussed how they re-purposed Allie’s ideas to reinvigorate reading lists at their university.

Four years on from launching Talis Aspire, Northumbria University Library wanted to demonstrate the usage of the reading list service. They built a custom dashboard, utilising the statistics generated by their online reading lists and interactions with academic staff. Amanda Foster, Content Delivery and Copyright Librarian and Rebecca Naughten, Reading Lists Assistant, Northumbria University delivered a session on their approach and how and why they selected sources for the dashboard.

Northumbria University won the Talis Aspire User Group award for creativity at the Talis Awards 2018 for their dashboard initiative. They had submitted a session idea on the same subject and presented this session on this project on Day Two of the conference.
