Academic perspective

Earlier this month, we co-hosted a Talis Aspire Day with Aston University with a focus on the topic of migration and integration. As one of our newest customers, the library team at Aston University were able to share their recent experiences of migrating from Rebus:list to Talis Aspire. We were also joined by academics at Aston University and by another newer customer, Edge Hill University who have also successfully made the switch from Rebus:list to Talis Aspire. You can see some of the presentations below.

Heather Whitehouse, Director of Information Resources and Research Services at Aston University Library kicked off the day with a welcome, providing context to Aston University’s history of using reading lists. Heather explains how Talis were able to overcome some of the problems they were facing previously, and notes that as there hasn’t been much feedback, she takes this to be positive, “the fact that we’ve received a largely silent response I think is a sign of success”.

We heard from academics at Aston University who shared their experiences of the move over to Talis Aspire and showed us how their use their lists in their teaching.

Edge Hill University also joined us at the day to share their experiences. Like Aston University, they are also a recent customer, and had previously used Rebus:list. They were the first to migrate from Rebus:list to Talis Aspire, and in their session they shared their Talis Aspire implementation and data migration experience, along with how they have rolled out the new service to their academics. Watch the session from Liam Sullivan Systems Manager and Sonia Edwards, Academic Engagement Manager below:

As well as hearing from our customers, we had sessions from members of the Talis team, who shared information on the migration and integration process.

Emma Dodd, Support Consultant, spoke about managing your implementation, how the Talis Services Team are involved and the steps you go through. She also shared a typical timeline for Talis customers, highlighting how we support you as a new customer, and beyond. Watch Emma’s session below:

Richard Tattersall, Technical Consultant gave us a look into data migrations in his session. He discusses the goals set out in your migration, the decisions you will need to make and how we will support you to achieve a successful migration by making best use of your data. Watch the session below:
