Southampton Solent University selects Talis Aspire to enhance student experience and library workflows
Following a formal tendering process, Southampton Solent University has selected Talis Aspire to manage and deliver its online reading lists, replacing an existing Refworks based solution.
Southampton Solent University aims to improve its online reading list system to enhance the student experience and streamline library workflows through better management of acquisitions.
Talis Aspire will be integrated with the university’s Virtual Learning Environment (VLE), Moodle, to provide seamless access to resources for students. The Talis Services team have already kicked off the implementation process with the team at Southampton Solent University and will be working with them over the summer to start rolling out Talis Aspire as soon as possible.
Talis Aspire will also be integrated with Solent’s Ex Libris: Aleph Library Management System, Shibboleth Authentication Tool and Primo: Ex Libris discovery system. This will provide a seamless way to add resources to reading lists, and provide direct links to these for their students, including real time library holding information and single sign on access where relevant.
“Southampton Solent University has been using reading list software for a number of years and we see it as key to our excellent student experience. The adoption of Talis Aspire provides an opportunity to build on our current services to provide a fully integrated student experience, encourage our academics to realise the full potential of reading lists and to enjoy a number of workflow benefits within the library. We are excited about the opportunities and look forward to working with the team at Talis” Ronan O’Beirne, University Librarian.
“We are pleased to welcome Southampton Solent University to the Talis Aspire user community as the 78th Talis Aspire customer in the UK. They have always demonstrated a clear commitment to improving student experience as shown by their consistently high NSS scores and awards won. We look forward to supporting their continued efforts and success” David Errington, CEO of Talis.
Southampton Solent University has approximately 10,000 students, with 15% of those coming from outside the UK. In 2015, they were awarded the ‘Most Improved Student Experience Award’ at the Times Higher Education Awards, based on a student survey. To find out more, visit https://www.solent.ac.uk/.
