De Montfort University aims to enhance teaching excellence and student experience with Talis and textbook publishers
De Montfort University have partnered with Talis and five major textbook publishers, including SAGE Publications and Wiley, to embed core textbooks directly into courses, through Talis Aspire, to enhance the student experience.
The pilot project at De Montfort University is delivering core textbooks to more than 2000 first-year students in the current academic year across selected modules. These textbooks will be delivered electronically and embedded directly into courses using the new eTextbooks management capabilities in Talis Aspire.

This will enhance the student experience through the provision of textbooks but also ensure it is embedded in their teaching. The subsequent review of textbooks’ use and student engagement will provide a valuable resource to support student transitions into and through higher education, thus providing them with the best academic experience.”
De Montfort University use Talis Aspire to manage and deliver course learning resources and their official reading lists for their courses. The data from official reading lists, managed using Talis Aspire, are already driving the acquisitions process for library collection. This pilot project will use the latest development by Talis to extend this library workflow to manage, at scale, the delivery of core etextbooks directly from publishers to provision into courses for students.

This pilot includes titles from five major textbook publishers delivered electronically using the Talis Player, developed in a technology collaboration with VitalSource. Students can access the resources from their official reading lists online and from their learning management system. This enables students to access their resources, with a single click, at the point of need and embedded deeply in their learning context.
