Reading list of the week

Our Reading List of the Week is Cardiovascular disease for Medical Students at the University of Liverpool from academic Laszlo Pazmany.

This list has been crafted especially for medical students by the academic. It has only 9 items, but each of these come with detailed annotations on on the length of time that should be spent on each item and information on each of the texts to give advice on how to approach them and help add context.

The academic also adds advice on how to use these texts for study, the note at the top of the list explains “…could you please start with what is here and move on to additional material only if you are confident of this content. The times I give are approximate, medical students often say that they need more. Nonetheless, it gives you an indication of level of detail. 10 pages in half an hour is a quick read, 3 pages in a hour and a half is learn almost word for word”

The items in the list are all available online, apart from one, ensuring that the content is accessible to all students. The item that is not available is labelled as ‘For student purchase’, allowing the students to identify quickly which they must buy. Other labels such as ‘Key’ or ‘Recommended’ enable the student to prioritise their reading tasks. The items chosen are varied, giving a broader range of knowledge to the student, from videos to workbooks to webpages, allowing the student to use multiple content types for their research.
