Reading List of the Week – Introduction to Politics and Global Studies, University of Winchester

Reading list of the week

Our Reading List of the Week is Introduction to Politics and Global Studies from the University of Winchester by lecturer William Sheward.

The list is split up into many sections, first is ‘Set Texts’ which are marked as ‘essential’ and are recommended for purchase in the notes added by academic. This is followed by weekly sections to guide the student through the material required for each class.

Splitting up the list into weeks helps the student prioritise their reading tasks and keep on top of reading material required for each class. Most of these items are articles or chapters, making it realistic for the students to consume bitesize content weekly, this also helps the student to prioritise and focus their reading tasks. Some weeks include additional reading to allow students to read more in depth if they are interested in a topic.

The final section is ‘Selection Biography’, the academic has written in the notes “This is an indicative selection of books, journals and web sites. The range of sources on this topic is enormous and growing daily. Be prepared, with the appropriate guidance for which you are always welcome, to conduct your own searches for material beyond the small sample included here.”

Here, the academic has selected a group of books to help the student with their wider reading tasks, which should be used as additional material to the weekly reading tasks. This section is clearly divided into ‘Books’ and ‘Websites’. Making it easier for the student to locate material, however, by including a large list with many different themes, students are encouraged to identify for themselves what they think is useful and relevant.
