Reading list of the week

Our Reading List of the Week is Approaches to Narrative from Manchester Metropolitan University. This list was nominated by the library as the creator of the list, Dr. Paul Wake had trained himself on using Talis Aspire Reading Lists using their online videos.

The list is simply organised into topics, for example “Fairy Tale” or “Modernism”. Some of the items in the list have been annotated by the academic, for example, as shown in the screenshot below, “DIGITISED. You might like to read the rest of the collection of short stories to get a sense of Woolf’s other short works.”

Most of the books on the list are Online Resources, making it easy for all students to access the resources in their own time and from their own device, particularly helpful for distance learners who cannot access the physical library on campus. The items are broken down by labels such as “Items for purchase” or “Further reading” to help the students plan and prioritise their reading.

This list was nominated by the library at Manchester Metropolitan University, as they have seen a dramatic growth in engagement. The academic, Dr Paul Wake began editing his own list last year and since then the page views and clicks onto items have more than tripled. Paul trained himself using the online videos created by the library. You can find out more and watch them here.

The list was created about a year ago and has had 1897 page views and 945 item clicks.
