Join Niall Sclater at Talis Insight 2015 to explore the state of Learning Analytics in UK HE

talis

Niall has been working closely with JISC as a consultant leading their activities around Learning Analytics. Previously he was also the Director of Learning and Teaching at the Open University. So when we were thinking about the Learning Analytics theme at Talis Insight 2015, we reached out to Niall. Here is a title and synopsis from Niall for his session:

Developing a national support infrastructure for learning analytics

Learning analytics has been identified by the Jisc community as a priority area for development and support.  There is particular interest in:

  • The provision of a basic learning analytics service for UK higher and further education institutions
  • Advice in resolving the many legal and ethical issues arising from learning analytics, and
  • The facilitation of communities of practice around learning analytics in the UK

This presentation outlines the efforts Jisc is making to push forward these initiatives, describing the evolving architecture for basic learning analytics services, showing how a Code of Practice is being developed to deal with the ethical and legal issues, and examining some of the ways in which universities and colleges are working together to share their experiences in learning analytics.

Niall’s session is scheduled to start at 3:45 PM following which he will join a panel session on Learning Analytics. The panel will be facilitated by Richard Maccabee from ULCC and joined by Mark Stubbs (Manchester Metropolitan University), Sheila MacNeill (Glasgow Caledonian University) and Adam Cooper (CETIS).
