Simon Thomson joins us for Day One at Talis Insight 2015. He holds the role of Head of E-Learning at Leeds Beckett University. When we approached Simon, we asked if he could bring an institution’s perspective on the Digital Strategies that are impacting Higher Education.

More recently, I asked Simon if he could provide a title and brief synopsis for his session at Talis Insight. So here it is:

Defining, Developing & Embedding Digital Literacy as a Graduate Attribute

Leeds Beckett University has three interlinking Graduate Attributes, which have been embedded throughout all our undergraduate courses: these attributes are enterprise, global outlook and digital literacy.

Collectively, these attributes define the distinctiveness of our graduates, and were selected for their alignment with our institutional identity and strengths, and their relevance as our graduates continue to make their way in a rapidly changing, globalising world. Our students’ futures are likely to be increasingly shaped by the changing nature of the workplace and society.

The digital literacy attribute identifies that a student should: Be Digitally Literate (able to confidently and critically identify and use information and digital technologies to enhance academic, personal, and professional development).

This session will introduce attendees to the initial task of developing the Leeds Beckett definition of digital literacy and how we embedded it within all undergraduate courses. Attendees will also learn about how various roles within our University, including academic staff, learning technologists and academic librarians were instrumental in the development of the digital literacy graduate attribute and the current role they have in supporting it’s implementation.

So if you want to hear from Simon, his session is at 11:55 AM on Day One. See the full speaker line up and running order on the website. Spaces are filling quickly, and you can still book your place!
