Talis news: December 2014

talis

Welcome to the December 2014 news update from Talis.

We recently announced David White, Sheila MacNeil and Mark Stubbs will be speaking at Talis Insight 2015. They need little introduction in the Higher Education community, and we are really excited they could join us. We will be announcing more speakers shortly.

Next year’s Talis Aspire User Group meeting will take place at Talis Insight 2015. We have already begun discussions with our customers, and will be announcing details soon. Register your interest here, and we will keep you informed on all the latest developments.

Customer news

We are pleased to announce that existing Talis Aspire Reading List customers Anglia Ruskin University and the University of Winchester have become the latest institutions to add our Talis Aspire Digitised Content module to streamline the management of copyright content.

Product news

Product Hour webinars

To keep everyone updated about upcoming features, we record an hour long webinar each month. These give an insight into ongoing developments, allowing you to plan future projects using our applications. The latest recorded webinars can be found here.

Did you miss our Google Analytics webinar series?

We have finished our second series of the Google Analytics webinars, for this series we had 15 attendees from a variety of universities. For those that missed them the recordings are available on our support pages.

New webinar series for 2015
We are going to be running a new webinar series starting in January 2015 based around Best Practice. We would like these sessions to be led by you the customer with our support. We see these as being a 10-15min presentation with a time for questions and discussion. Get in touch with Laura Unwin if you would like to lead a session or have an area you would like to see presented on.
Latest developments

Our development team recently completed the end-to-end workflow for the British Library integration in Talis Aspire Digitised Content, which was demonstrated at our recent open day in November. When available for BETA testing in early 2015, the integration will enable customers to check price and availability, and place orders with the British Library directly from within Talis Aspire Digitised Content for documents not held by the library. We also completed the migration of our reporting infrastructure for Talis Aspire Reading Lists to new upgraded hardware to support live reporting from the underlying database. The development team is now focused on delivering the live reports on the new infrastructure. Finally, we have also been putting some final touches to the CAL report, in preparation for the first CAL report submission, using Talis Aspire Digitised Content, by one of our Australian customers.

Talis Aspire review

Would you like to review your Talis Aspire setup, and understand how you could improve efficiency? Talis now offer a Talis Aspire Business Process Review, the first of these two days is scheduled onsite, where we meet with your team, and you walk us through what you do today and any issues that you may be facing, we then use day two to report back on our recommendations of what you can improve, and other universities who you might want to contact to understand a little more about their setup. If you would like to explore this further, please contact Alison Spencer, or raise a support case here.

Consulting projects

Planning for 2015, make sure that you highlight any change projects that you have scheduled, so as to enable the Talis team to plan to your timeframe; to keep us up to date, simply raise a support case here, and the team will come back to discuss your requirements.

Support

At Talis we support customers using both Talis Aspire Reading Lists and Talis Aspire Digitised Content. These two modules integrate with many different combinations of systems, and each customer is unique. To help us better support your Talis modules and their integration with your unique combination of systems, we’re asking you to spend a few minutes updating us on the systems that you use by completing this survey.

As we approach 2015 would you like to carry out a complete review of all of your open support cases? if so, email Alison Spencer, and we will arrange a time for one of the Support Consultants to contact you.
